AUCKLAND TEAM
The Aces are back in action against the Wellington Firebirds on Wednesday and they’re hoping to pick up where they left off after winning four out of their first five games in the one day competition. They enter the clash with a side bereft of four Black Caps but still with a powerful batting and bowling line-up. Lou Vincent and Gareth Hopkins will provide the Aces with some real firepower in the batting order, and even without Kyle Mills and Chris Martin the Aces can still call upon Andre Adams and Daryl Tuffey to lead the attack.
AUCKLAND TEAM
A four out of five record in the State Shield means the State Auckland Aces have retained the same twelve that won the top of the table State Shield clash against the Central Stags for the opening of their State Twenty20 campaign against Otago in Dunedin tomorrow. The twelve to face Otago on January 18th are: Richard Jones (Captain), Martin Guptill, Paul Hitchcock, Rob Nicol, Scott Styris, Dave Houpapa, Gareth Hopkins, Andre Adams, Daryl Tuffey, Ronnie Hira, Andy McKay, Colin de Grandhomme.
VETTORI TO MISS GAMES
Blackcaps captain Daniel Vettori will miss the two Twenty/20 matches against England in Auckland on Tuesday and Christchurch two days later. Vettori has not recovered from an ankle injured suffered while training with his STATE Northern Districts side on Friday. Jeetan Patel, who was on standby, comes into the squad as Vettori's replacement. Brendon McCullum will captain the side.
STYRIS RETIRES
Scott Styris today announced his retirement from Test and First Class cricket to focus on ODI and Twenty20 cricket with the 2011 World Cup in India as his end goal. “The rigours of international cricket have become increasingly demanding and I would like to extend my career by focusing on shorter versions of the game,” he said. “I had originally planned to retire from Test cricket at the end of The National Bank Series, but decided to bring the decision forward out of fairness to the selectors and other players.
