Graeme Swann has recently completed an autobiography called ‘The Breaks Are Off’ and Kevin Pietersen has been described in the book as not being a natural leader. Mr Pietersen disagreed with what was written and has said, “The book is not very clever and this is not going to undermine the team plays in the coming months. Everything is going to continue just as it was.”
Mr Pietersen had previously captained the English cricket team but it was not a success and he left the role in early 2009. He further went on to say, “This is quite a strange book to publish in the middle of your career but despite what it said it is not going to change the way the team plays together. We always look out for each other and we will continue to have great success in international cricket. We are heading to Dubai and Abu Dhabi within the next month and we are going to be as united as we have always been.”
Andy Flower took over as the coach of the team in 2009 and Andrew Strauss took over as captain. Since that time England have enjoyed a huge amount of success in cricket and they have won the Ashes at home and away.
The next series of cricket matches will be against Pakistan but because of the continuing security concerns in the country the game is going to be played in neutral territory. Despite its general optimism Mr Pietersen said that remaining at the top of the international rankings is going to be very challenging, commenting, “It was a huge amount of work to get the top of the rankings but it is going to be even more challenging to stay there. Playing at such a consistently high level takes its toll on the team.”
